Itinerary

Arrive in Kathmandu and meet your Mantra Adventure climbing team. Island Peak (Imja Tse) at 6,189 metres is Nepal's most popular trekking peak — accessible without prior technical climbing experience but demanding genuine mountaineering skills on the summit day. Comprehensive briefing on equipment, permits and the 19-day programme. Welcome dinner. Meals: Dinner.

35-minute mountain flight to Lukla and trek north along the Dudh Koshi to Phakding. Walking time: 3–4 hours. Meals: All included.

Cross the Hillary Bridge and climb to Namche — the Khumbu's commercial hub with the first Everest view. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

Acclimatisation hike to the Everest View Hotel ridge with your climbing guide. Equipment check: crampons, harness, ice axe, ascending devices. Meals: All included.

Trek through rhododendron and silver fir to Tengboche Monastery — the Khumbu's spiritual heart. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

Descend past Pangboche to the Imja Valley and ascend to Dingboche. First views of Island Peak's elegant summit from the village. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

High acclimatisation hike above Dingboche. Technical preparation session with your climbing guide. Meals: All included.

Trek east up the Imja Valley to Chhukung — directly below the spectacular south face of Island Peak. Your summit objective is now visible in its full, intimidating glory above camp. Walking time: 3–4 hours. Meals: All included.

Ascend to Island Peak Base Camp. Establish camp, sort climbing equipment and conduct technical briefing on fixed rope, crampon and ice axe techniques on the nearby glacier. Meals: All included.

Pre-dawn departure (midnight or 1am) for the summit push. The approach crosses a glacier, then fixed ropes lead to the steep ice headwall — the technical crux of the climb. At the summit ridge (6,189m), the panorama of Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, Amphu Lapcha and the entire Khumbu is simply overwhelming. This is one of the great summit experiences in the Himalayan world. Descend to base camp. Reserve day follows if needed. Meals: All included.

Reserve summit day if weather prevented ascent on Day 10. Otherwise rest at base camp or descend to Chhukung. Meals: All included.

Long descent from high altitude — passing Dingboche, Tengboche and down to Namche. The altitude loss is immediate and welcome. Walking time: 6–7 hours. Meals: All included.

Final trekking day and farewell ceremony with your Sherpa and climbing crew. Walking time: 6–7 hours. Meals: All included.

Morning flight back to Kathmandu. Celebration dinner. Overnight: Kathmandu hotel. Meals: Breakfast, dinner.

Buffer for weather delays at Lukla airport. Free time in Kathmandu. Meals: Breakfast.

Second buffer day. Meals: Breakfast.

Third buffer day. Meals: Breakfast.

Final buffer day. Last Kathmandu exploration. Meals: Breakfast.

Airport transfer for your international departure. Island Peak — a 6,000-metre technical summit in the heart of the Everest region — is one of the most rewarding mountaineering experiences on earth. Meals: Breakfast.

Essential Tips

The best seasons are Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November). Spring brings rhododendron blooms and stable weather; Autumn offers crystal-clear post-monsoon visibility. Nepal trips in these windows deliver optimal mountain views.

This trip is rated Challenging. Requires good fitness and ideally prior high-altitude or multi-day trekking experience. Begin cardio and hiking training 3 months before departure.

Most nationalities get Nepal visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport for USD 30 (30 days). Indian nationals do not require a visa.

Required permits and TIMS card arranged by Mantra Adventure. No extra hassle for you.

Included: Airport transfers; domestic flights/transport per itinerary; all trek accommodation; all meals during trek; English-speaking guide; porters (1 per 2 trekkers); all trekking permits; Mantra Adventure duffel bag. Not included: International flights; Nepal visa; personal travel insurance (mandatory); personal gear; tips.

For Island Peak Climbing (Challenging): Cardiovascular fitness built over 3-4 months including hill walks with a pack. Prior trekking experience strongly recommended.

Maximum altitude is 6,189m / Island Peak (Imja Tse). Altitude sickness is a real risk above 3,500m. Our itinerary includes acclimatisation days and our guides carry supplemental oxygen. Diamox can be taken as prophylaxis — consult your doctor. Emergency evacuation insurance is mandatory.
