Itinerary

Meet your Mantra Adventure guide at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to Thamel hotel. Evening trek briefing covers the Renjo La route, high-pass logistics, permit requirements and equipment essentials. Welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant. Overnight: Kathmandu hotel. Meals: Dinner.

Thrilling 35-minute flight to Lukla over the Himalayan foothills. Trek begins immediately along the Dudh Koshi River through pine and rhododendron forest. Cross the first of many suspension bridges before reaching Phakding for the night. Walking time: 3–4 hours. Meals: All included.

Cross the legendary Hillary Bridge and enter Sagarmatha National Park. The 600-metre climb to Namche tests the legs but rewards with the first view of Everest's summit above the ridge. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

Acclimatisation day with a hike west towards Thame village (3,820m) — a less-visited but spectacular valley that forms the approach to the Renjo La. Thame is famous as the birthplace of many legendary Sherpa climbers, including Tenzing Norgay. The gompa above the village is one of the finest in the Khumbu. Return to Namche for the evening. Meals: All included.

Head west through Thame and up into the high Bhote Koshi Valley — a remote, rarely visited area of the Khumbu that sees a fraction of the traffic of the main EBC trail. The valley narrows as you ascend through yak pastures to Lungden, a small cluster of stone lodges at the base of the Renjo La. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

The Renjo La is the most scenic of the three high passes in the Everest region. An early start is essential. The ascent is long but manageable, following switchbacks up the moraine. At the summit (5,360m), the view is extraordinary: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and the Gokyo Lakes — all simultaneously visible, spread below like a topographic relief map. Descend steeply to Gokyo Lake. Walking time: 7–8 hours. Meals: All included.

Early morning ascent of Gokyo Ri for a second extraordinary summit panorama — this time looking east towards Everest rather than west as from the Renjo La. The contrast between the two viewpoints is remarkable. Return to Gokyo for breakfast and a rest day afternoon exploring the upper lakes or simply sitting beside the turquoise water. Walking time: 3–4 hours. Meals: All included.

Short trek across the Ngozumpa Glacier moraine to Dragnag — base camp for the Cho La crossing. The glacier is one of the largest in Nepal, and crossing its moraine involves careful navigation through a maze of boulders and ice pools. Dragnag has basic but welcoming teahouses. Walking time: 2–3 hours. Meals: All included.

Cho La is the most technically challenging of the three passes — the final approach involves a steep, sometimes icy scramble with fixed ropes. Crampons and trekking poles are strongly recommended. At the summit (5,420m), Cholatse and Lobuche East tower above you in dramatic isolation. The descent to Dzongla and then Lobuche is long and knee-testing but supremely rewarding. Walking time: 7–8 hours. Meals: All included.

Cross the Khumbu Glacier moraine to Gorak Shep, drop your pack, and continue to Everest Base Camp — the crowning achievement of the trek. The camp itself, surrounded by towering ice pinnacles and the roar of the Khumbu Icefall, is a place of visceral, physical power. Return to Gorak Shep for the night. Walking time: 7–9 hours. Meals: All included.

Pre-dawn ascent of Kala Patthar for sunrise on Everest — the culminating photographic moment of the entire journey. The warm light catching the summit pyramid above Nuptse is an image burned permanently into memory. Descend all the way to Pheriche for a significant altitude drop and a well-earned rest. Walking time: 7–8 hours. Meals: All included.

Long descent day through Pangboche, Tengboche and down the Dudh Koshi Valley to Namche. The rapid altitude loss brings a sense of physical relief and renewed energy. Walking time: 6–7 hours. Meals: All included.

Final full day of trekking — a mostly downhill run through the national park, across suspension bridges and through pine forest to Lukla. Farewell ceremony with your Sherpa and porter crew. Walking time: 6–7 hours. Meals: All included.

Morning flight to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel, afternoon at leisure, celebration dinner in the evening. Overnight: Kathmandu. Meals: Breakfast, dinner.

Airport transfer for your international departure. You have completed one of the most extraordinary triple-pass circuits in the Himalayas. Meals: Breakfast.

Essential Tips

The best seasons are Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November). Spring brings rhododendron blooms and stable weather; Autumn offers crystal-clear post-monsoon visibility. Nepal trips in these windows deliver optimal mountain views.

This trip is rated Challenging. Requires good fitness and ideally prior high-altitude or multi-day trekking experience. Begin cardio and hiking training 3 months before departure.

Most nationalities get Nepal visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport for USD 30 (30 days). Indian nationals do not require a visa.

Sagarmatha National Park (USD 30) + TIMS card (USD 20) required. All permits arranged by Mantra Adventure. No extra hassle for you.

Included: Airport transfers; domestic flights/transport per itinerary; all trek accommodation; all meals during trek; English-speaking guide; porters (1 per 2 trekkers); all trekking permits; Mantra Adventure duffel bag. Not included: International flights; Nepal visa; personal travel insurance (mandatory); personal gear; tips.

For Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek (Challenging): Cardiovascular fitness built over 3-4 months including hill walks with a pack. Prior trekking experience strongly recommended.

Maximum altitude is 5,360m / Renjo La. Altitude sickness is a real risk above 3,500m. Our itinerary includes acclimatisation days and our guides carry supplemental oxygen. Diamox can be taken as prophylaxis — consult your doctor. Emergency evacuation insurance is mandatory.
