Itinerary

Arrive in Kathmandu and meet your Mantra Adventure guide. The Helambu Trek is one of Nepal's most accessible and culturally rich short treks — a circuit through the Sherpa farming villages of the Helambu region, accessible directly from Kathmandu without internal flights. Welcome dinner. Meals: Dinner.

Drive 30 minutes to Sundarijal on the north-east edge of the Kathmandu Valley and begin the trek immediately, climbing through Shivapuri National Park forest. Chisapani — 'cold water' in Nepali — sits on a ridge with a remarkable 270-degree panorama of the Himalaya including Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal and, on clear days, Everest. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

The trail traverses the Shivapuri ridge with continuous mountain views east towards the Jugal Himal and the snowy peaks above the Langtang region. Nagarkot is one of Nepal's most famous viewpoints — a ridge-top village east of Kathmandu with the widest Himalayan panorama accessible by road. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

Leave Nagarkot and descend into the Indrawati Valley on a less-travelled trail. The route passes through apple orchards, millet terraces and traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages where daily life continues largely unchanged. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

A sustained climb through rhododendron and oak forest to Tharepati — the highest point of the Helambu circuit at 3,640 metres. On a clear day, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa and a long line of Himalayan peaks fill the northern horizon from the ridge. Walking time: 5–6 hours. Meals: All included.

Descend from the high ridge into the principal Sherpa village of Helambu — Tarke Gyang, with its gompa, traditional architecture and apple orchards. This is the cultural heart of the Helambu valley. Walking time: 4–5 hours. Meals: All included.

Descend through terraced farmland and sub-tropical forest to the Melamchi River and the road at Melamchi Pul Bazaar. Vehicle transfer to Kathmandu (2–3 hours). Farewell dinner. Meals: All included.

Airport transfer for your international departure. The Helambu Trek delivers authentic Sherpa culture, Himalayan panoramas and a genuine taste of Nepal's hill country within just one hour of Kathmandu. Meals: Breakfast.

Essential Tips

The best seasons are Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November). Spring brings rhododendron blooms and stable weather; Autumn offers crystal-clear post-monsoon visibility. Nepal trips in these windows deliver optimal mountain views.

This trip is rated Easy. Suitable for beginners with basic fitness — walking 3-4 times per week for 4-6 weeks is adequate. No technical experience needed.

Most nationalities get Nepal visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport for USD 30 (30 days). Indian nationals do not require a visa.

Required permits and TIMS card arranged by Mantra Adventure. No extra hassle for you.

Included: Airport transfers; domestic flights/transport per itinerary; all trek accommodation; all meals during trek; English-speaking guide; porters (1 per 2 trekkers); all trekking permits; Mantra Adventure duffel bag. Not included: International flights; Nepal visa; personal travel insurance (mandatory); personal gear; tips.

For Helambu Trek (Easy): Regular walking or swimming 3×/week for 6 weeks is sufficient. You should be comfortable walking 5-6 hours on uneven terrain.

Maximum altitude is 3,640m / Tharepati. Altitude sickness is a real risk above 3,500m. Our itinerary includes acclimatisation days and our guides carry supplemental oxygen. Diamox can be taken as prophylaxis — consult your doctor. Emergency evacuation insurance is mandatory.
